Money Doesn't Grow on Christmas Trees

As Christmas rounds the corner and my bank account runs dry, I find myself spending more time studying online shopping websites than studying for my pending experimental statistics final. So what have I accomplished after countless hours of “research”?

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble, TOUCHDOWN!!

I think I'm literally gaining weight from just thinking about the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays. There is absolutely nothing better than a good home cooked southern Thanksgiving dinner. Well, maybe there's one thing: the weekend that follows. No, not the hustle, bustle, and great buys of Black Friday (I hate the chaos, love the deals), not even the food coma that results from Maw-Maw's Thanksgiving lunch and leftovers dinner.... the only thing that rivals a traditional southern Thanksgiving happens to be THE rivalry. That's right ladies and gents. The yearly Clemson versus South Carolina football game that always rolls around the weekend after Thanksgiving.

No matter where in the state of South Carolina you hail from, you're going to have an opinion. You're either a USC Gamecock or a Clemson Tiger, and in this rivalry, there's no grey area. Being a Tiger fan (I mean let's be real), Thanksgiving has always meant listening to my USC-fan family members talking trash and making jokes at my (and all Tigers') expense. It never bothered me though because I always knew that come Saturday night after the game was over, all I would be hearing is "Just wait til' next year!", the typical Gamecock response to its lashing courtesty of the Tigers. In recent years though, the game has been much more competitive. The teams have been pitted against each other equally, and the outcome is never clear until the game clock reads: 0:00 in the 4th quarter.

So, just as my excitement is heightened by the thoughts of meals other than the usual college delicacies (ramen noodles & easy mac) that are soon to come once returning to my roots of Newberry, South Carolina, the intensity of the rivalry looms just around the corner. A game that, both Gamecock and Tiger fans can agree on, defines Thanksgiving in South Carolina.

yum.. GO TIGERS! :)
